First Party Invitation

Audrey received her first party invitation a few weeks ago, and we went to it on Saturday. Even though she seems to always be smiling and outgoing...

she isn't when she's around strangers. She literally clung to our legs most of the time.

She finally started to get comfortable when she saw my friends' dog. She LOVES dogs. When she sees one, she just giggles like crazy.

After that, she was okay (except for when this little boy pushed her and she hit her head on the floor). She sat in the birthday girl's lap, ate like she hadn't been fed in days, and successfully evaded being poked in the eyeball by the aforementioned little devil boy.

It was a success! And she even got a little bag of goodies to take home, with an extremely loud whistle (thanks, Melanie), some healthy fruit treats, and bubbles.

Girls' Night

This past weekend was utter madness. It was like one of those times when you got really drunk and woke up the next morning, asking things like, "How did that popcorn get on the garage floor?"

Matt was out of town on Friday and Saturday, so I decided that we'd have a girls' night...just Mom, my nieces, and (possibly) my SIL. And of course, Audrey. I was looking forward to it. I imagined us painting each other's toenails, watching a movie, and snuggling in bed.

And parts of it were fun. Or at least I think they were. Here's a picture of everyone on the swing:

That's Elizabeth on the left, Mom, Audrey, and Nichole. Actually, you know what I had to say to get those smiles? I think it was something like, "Pretend like you're happy."

But seriously, there were some good times. Here's Elizabeth reading to Audrey:

And yes, Audrey does have her hand stuck down her pants, like a guy relaxing on the couch after a big meal. At least that's what I've seen in movies.

But it was fun, under the circumstances. A neighbor of Mom's (for 42 years) passed away last Wednesday, and her funeral was on Saturday. And Noah and crazy SIL, who have been trying to reconcile, broke up on Friday. More on that later, maybe.

All I can say is, I'm still exhausted. I feel like I could sleep for three days. And I hope our next girls' night goes much better.

Chaos

I had an appointment with the chiropractor the other day, and when I got home, no one was there to greet me at the door. That usually means that things aren't going quite so smoothly.

The first thing I saw was Audrey, naked as a jaybird, her hair soaking wet, running around the house. Adorable, I thought. I love it when she does that.

Then I saw Matt, who was looking a little harried. It turns out that Audrey, who was only wearing a shirt and diaper when I put her down for a nap, had taken off her diaper and peed all over the place. Even all over her lovey (the horror). So, Matt was trying to get everything washed and dried, especially the lovey, before she went to sleep. She'd done this before, but it was a while ago, so I thought she'd outgrown it.

And as much as I felt bad for Matt, who'd had a rough day already, I couldn't help but smile inwardly. Because I'm so glad my life is like this now, so unpredictable and filled with moments like these. So thankful for our little family.

Leave of Absence

Wow. I have not posted since October 28. Almost five months...almost half a year. That's crazy. I did take a class that took up some time in the fall, but that's not the reason. I have SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder), and it's terrible. I always get so excited for fall, for a break from the crazy heat around here. And I love Halloween. This year was no exception. We took Audrey to pick out a pumpkin, we decided she'd be a ladybug, and she was absolutely adorable.

Every year, though, I start to feel "flattened". That's the only way to describe it. I just have no energy, but some of that is how the weather affects my fibro. I can stave off the blues through Christmas, usually, but January and February are the cruelest months for me, by far.

But it's starting to warm up here, and I'm feeling a little better. So we'll see if I can get back to blogging.
